  • Bias is a dc voltage (1.5 - 9 volts typically) that is provided on a single conductor. Unlike phantom power, bias does not require a balanced circuit. Bias supplies power to a Junction Field Effect Transistor (JFET) connected to the output of an electret condenser mic element.
  • Bias voltage is a low DC voltage, typically somewhere between 1.5 and 9.5V DC, used to power electronic circuitry located inside a condenser (or capacitor) type microphone's capsule. It is usually a fixed amount of voltage, and it is important to provide the precise amount of voltage for a given capsule design.

Bias

An electrical current that is sent through the tape heads during recording in order to insure that a minimum level of magnetization is going on at all times. This increases the frequency response of the recording by making it easier for high frequency portions of a signal to reach tape.

using GP9 on a 456 biased machine... Please help!

I'll record a friend next weekend and just found out that there is no 456 anymore in town, I'll have to use GP9 or cancel the session cause I can't get my machine rebiased (a fostex g24s, 1")

What will happen if i'm using the wrong tape? I'm recording something noisy, ambient, so I don't need super clean sterile sounds

any advices? thanks

Bias Peak

Anybody work with this thing? I just got it and am running my mixes though it- I can tweak them with eq to sound better but haven't been able to get them louder- I got some demos I would like to send out with a little more volume but don't really want to pay for mastering as these are demo songs and if the songs are picked up they will get rerecorded anyway... any help is appreciated :D

Bias Deck and Peak DAWs

Has anyone here used either of these? I downloaded the free versions tonight and have been messing around with them for the past few hours. So far, they seem to be pretty deicent programs. I also downloaded Traktion earler today too. Im re- deciding which DAW i would like to purchase at the moment because i have just recently decided not to go with Cubase SX.
