Description
A valve (tube) microphone is a condenser microphone which uses a valve (tube) amplifier rather than a transistor circuit. The condenser microphone, invented at Western Electric in 1916 by E. C. Wente, is also called a capacitor microphone or electrostatic microphone—capacitors were historically called condensers. Condenser microphones are best used to capture vocals and high frequencies. They are also the preferred type of microphone for most studio applications. Also known as capacitor microphones, condenser mics are mainly used in studios because of their detail and accuracy.

Pair of Good Condensers

I have been looking for a pair of AKG 5600s {I love those things} for about 2 weeks with no results what so ever. Since Im not finding them I would like to ask you all what your opinions are on a decent pair of condensers under say 800 for the pair. They will be used for everything from church choir live sound to recording Overheads on Drums, Vocals, Horns, u name it.

What should my first condenser be?

I'm looking at two in particular. Either the AT 2035 which for a while I have considered to be my 'first condenser', or the AT 2050. The 2035 seems to be an intermediate contender with bass rolloff and 10dB pad. Or should I save up my money and get the 2050 with switchable patterns (cardioid/omni/8 )? Or do you think something else entirely would suit me better?

Condenser Placement

How come whenever I see a recording session in commercial/film whatever it always seems that the condensers for vocals are suspended upside down. I have come up with a few possibilities myself.

1. It helps accentuate certain frequencies.

2. It keeps the stand out of the way so the singer can move or read lyrics below the mic.

Condenser Mic Troubles?

I always have this nagging fear that every time i hold a condenser mic in my hands i've somehow broke it because i griped it to hard, or whatever, because everyone tells me there so fragile.

But so my question is, how sensitive are condenser mics? And give me an example of what action would break it to the point where you can hear a fair difference in sound?
