Without considering all of the hardware implications...
What are the main differences in these programs?
I've heard:
a. CEpro2 has a ton of effects the others don't (at least, not included free)
b. Pro Tools is the "standard" in the industry, but kinda tied to hardware
c. Sonar handles MIDI a LOT better

I am new here and read a post that indicated that it may be worth waiting 6 months or so to upgrade my audio PC. Could someone lead me to the thread that discusses what is coming up in the near future that is going to make such a big difference in audio PCs? Or if it has not been spelled out, could someone explain what is on the horizon?

I have a few questions for those kind enough to help.

After all the great help on this forum, I am now constructing a DAW (my first effort)using the following:

I think that this operating system is born to be the pro audio standard platform.
Having native in-the-system MIDI setup and native multi-channel 32 bit 96 khz audio, and AU standard, is very attractive.
And as CPU speed up, we will se 64 bit floating point and 192 kHz native.

So I need a little support/advice from the community here. I'm an audio engineer working in and A/V production facility that is well established, but isn't always too forward looking in gear upgrades/updates. However, we have one of the highest hourly rates in our market, higher even than some fully equipped music tracking/mixing studios.

I am about to upgrade my system.

I would like to hear from professional Musicians and Producers with their opinions on the sonic quality of various recording formats.

For example, though many people I have spoken to claI'm that this is not possible, I believe that Pro Tools sounds better than Logic Audio. I have them both.
