24 Bit more about resolution, not dynamics...
While technically it it true that 24bit gives you "more dynamic range", the real benefit is the increased resolution. You have to realize that an audio waveform is constantly passing from positive to negative, very quickly. in these microseconds you get down in the "crevices" near 0 physical amplitude, which is -inf in your DAW.
Heaven forbid - a band that actually WANTS dynamics
Hey guys -
Just thought I'd share cuz it doesn't happen everyday.
I just started working on a project for a California-based band (After the Crash).
Playing wit dynamics (not compression!)
hello
i'd like to know what you guys do to seperate the parts of a song dynamically.
i often find when i mix something, although i like the overall sound, there's no real seperation between, let's say, the verse and the chorus. i'd like the chorus to be "louder" than the rest without just making it louder.

plugin or hardware dynamics
just wondering what the peeps are using a lot of these days.
I know there old, but i just can't seem to get enough of the Focusrite 6 band EQ, and I almost always start compressing with the fairchild 660.
for limiting, i like the plain jane digirack limiter II.
has anyone used the new III series?
oh yeah, as if i need to say it I'm using Pro Tools.

Dynamics vs. . Volume: How does this clip sound?
I've been on a Radiohead, Hail to the Thief kick lately, and the mastering is very quiet, with excellent dynamics. So, I've been trying very hard to work with dynamics in my masters lately, while preserving loud volume. Here is the latest experiment at -9 dB RMS in the loud section. How dynamic or squished does this clip sound to everybody?
valley people dyna-mite dynamics processor
Hey there,
Just wondering if anyone had any experience with this processor. I know it's a fairly rare unit from the early 1980's. I've got the opportunity to pick one up for about $350.
Thanks for your thoughts.
Jed

Oxford Dynamics and EQ plugins
Oxford Dynamics and EQ.
Compared against anything UAD offers, which I have, are they worth 2 to 2.5X ? 550 for the EQ seems pretty pricey, especially with no demo for me to try AFAIK (gave all the demo's a once over about 6 months ago), same with dynamics. Then again I have a buttload of compressors available to me with UAD and 3 cards to spare, but only 3 EQ's.

drum dynamics
what would help even the dynamics of a drum track? In other words, what keep the track sounding even volume-wise.. The problem is, my drummer sort has a tendancy to get extremely loud on some parts of songs we play and really quite on others and I want it to sound more uniform.

With or without eq and dynamics
Hi there again - yes yes yes - sorry to be asking so much.
What I am doing right now is creating a live set which shall be pre setup as I am using a digital desk and a sequencer as well as loads of live instruments. Therefore I am pre mixing for a live situation.

song dynamics without effecting volume?
Hi there! If you have a song that starts off dead quite say just an acustic guitar and a vocal and slowly builds to a full on rock herdling distorted guitar ending how do you still make the beggining of the track start load, volume wise, without loosing that quiet feeling. Iv heard similar effects on proffesional recording but am unsure of the clever remedy. Does anyone know the secret?
