24 Bit more about resolution, not dynamics...

While technically it it true that 24bit gives you "more dynamic range", the real benefit is the increased resolution. You have to realize that an audio waveform is constantly passing from positive to negative, very quickly. in these microseconds you get down in the "crevices" near 0 physical amplitude, which is -inf in your DAW.

Dynamics vs. . Volume: How does this clip sound?

I've been on a Radiohead, Hail to the Thief kick lately, and the mastering is very quiet, with excellent dynamics. So, I've been trying very hard to work with dynamics in my masters lately, while preserving loud volume. Here is the latest experiment at -9 dB RMS in the loud section. How dynamic or squished does this clip sound to everybody?

Oxford Dynamics and EQ plugins

Oxford Dynamics and EQ.
Compared against anything UAD offers, which I have, are they worth 2 to 2.5X ? 550 for the EQ seems pretty pricey, especially with no demo for me to try AFAIK (gave all the demo's a once over about 6 months ago), same with dynamics. Then again I have a buttload of compressors available to me with UAD and 3 cards to spare, but only 3 EQ's.

drum dynamics

what would help even the dynamics of a drum track? In other words, what keep the track sounding even volume-wise.. The problem is, my drummer sort has a tendancy to get extremely loud on some parts of songs we play and really quite on others and I want it to sound more uniform.

song dynamics without effecting volume?

Hi there! If you have a song that starts off dead quite say just an acustic guitar and a vocal and slowly builds to a full on rock herdling distorted guitar ending how do you still make the beggining of the track start load, volume wise, without loosing that quiet feeling. Iv heard similar effects on proffesional recording but am unsure of the clever remedy. Does anyone know the secret?
