ISA428 vs. . VMP-4000e

well, I have heard really good things on both of these units and have never heard anyone compare them to each other. They are both 4 channel mic preamps, the 428 being solid state with the optional 8 channel ADAT out ($1699, $599 for optional ADAT a/d), and the VMP-4000e is tube with just analog outs ($1899). I know they have different "colors of sound", but is one better quality?

Just got my ISA 428

Well, as I said I just got my focusright ISA 428 and the other night I did some quick recordings using an SM57 Micing up a line-6 duoverb through a marshall cab. This is the first higher end preamp I have ever used. I was suprised by how much more reactive it made the sm 57 act. It was picking up much more than I have heard a 57 pick up (felt like I was using a condenser mic).

Langevin Dual Vocal Combo or Focusrite ISA 428?

Hi everyone,

Some of you might remember a thread I posted a while ago about spending US$4000 on preamps. Turns out I'll only have half that money for 6 months, and I have a CD to record that must be out by December.

So, I can only buy one of the pres we discussed, and they were the Langevin Dual Vocal Combo and the Focusrite ISA428.
