Here's my situation:
I have an amateur "studio". It is based around the following stuff:

I'm currently using a Yamaha AW4416 as my front end mixer. I track through a Sytek MPX-4A to the Yamaha, and connect to Nuendo through ADAT Lightpipe through a Nuendo Digiset. I have found the sound quality of 24 bit at 48k to be decent sound quality, but wonder what some other (better) options would be in terms of a front end for my system.

I am in the prosess of buying a nice front end to my MOTU setup, and instead of buying a load of pre's, I thought I'd buy a nice mixer which will be much more versatile as well for mixing, routing etc...

Had a look at an AMEK BCII at Funky Junk in London. Looks nice, but it was still in parts for an overhaul.

I found the importance of having a good pre-amp when I was tracking a bass guitar on a session a while ago. We dicided to use the pre's on the Akai MPC we were using that evening. I've always said I'd like to get my hands on an ART Pro MPA or something like a Avalon VT737 or equivalent. Anyhow, the track sounded superb.

Due to the constant whining from my family for things like food, shelter, clothing, etc., I am always evaluating my gear and tend to get rid of those pieces I don't use very often in order to get new stuff.

I have the opportunity to purchase a Trident Series 16 (it has the modules from the 75 series). While I am not antpcipating replacing my control 24 with it, I am interested in the pres and eq's as front end going into a DAW. Does anyone have an opinion about this soncially or logistically?

I've been tearing my brain to pieces trying to pick a middle line preamp. Does anyone have any comments on using the Langevin Dual Mono Mic Pre with EQ? It can be had for about $1100. What about the Langevin Pultec? Good stuff? No?
One last question... the PreSonus MP20 claims to be a discrete class A preamp. Anyone heard this thing? Good price if its decent.

1. What's the best mike for.. (just kidding). New to the board. You guys are great. Learned so much the first stop-by in this rarified air. Love the "reasoned" approach, and the punishing disdain for those who won't exercise the right.
