I've used Grace pres in the past, always really liked their sound, but I haven't personally used this one:

Don't know if this is the right section for this, but I'm having a noise problem recording with the QTC40 and Grace preamp. Thought maybe I could skip testing some parts of the recording chain if I describe the problem in enough detail. Using 5 mics with this project, when the Grace input began to make some noise, then the signal disappeared altogether. Simple enough, eh?

I currently use a UA Solo 610, Focusrite ISA One and PreSonus Eureka in my studio.
These are all capable of different colors and all sound great.
However, all my pres are transformer type pres and apparently this adds something to the sound?

Has anyone tried both of these pres?

Which of these has the cleanest most transpartent and un colored sound?

The Grace m201 is $2,150. Two Grace 101s are $1,140. Other than a few obvious features like MS decoding, what is the difference. They say, "The Grace 101 uses the same fast, musical transimpedance amplifier architecture as the venerable Grace 801 and 201"... Where did the extra $1K go?

I am the proud new owner of a grace 101 pre and was reading up on it.

I came across this in a review by Bob Ross for Recording Magazine:

"Both the XLR and TRS jacks can feed
unbalanced sources, though Grace strongly recommends
using cables which leave pin 3 (or the ring) open to minimize
distortion."

I have a Grace 101 model which I use in my home studio with the Studio Projects C1 mic. I find it to be a very clean mic preamp but I just checked the price of the Sebatron 1000 and all these great reviews got me curious... how would these two mic preamps compare ?

That Grace is a REALLY transparent pre... what is comparable to it (price and QUALITY) that is a warmer preamp?

Im thinkin bout gettin one of these pres.I would like to try them out first so does anyone know of a place with a good return policy that carries these 3?Pluse any thoughts on them?
