Recording level

Hi,

I'm making trance/dance music with Reason 2.01, Cubase SX and my hardware gear. I have some questions whats the best db level to record -6db? I see on some tutorials always from -6db but my soundcard has also +4db. I'm beginner and don't understand all the different things. Like when you have to eq channels, ... Anyone can give me some info?

Best Regards
Kris

ACID levels

How should i be setting levels in Acid?

Each track has a fader and then there's a stereo master. I seem to have a knack for clipping the Master regularly. i looked in the manual but could not find specific info on setting levels. I record my guitar into it too but don't have too much trouble with that. Is there a global command to set levels of added tracks at a given level?

Digimax mic inputs at line/instrument level?

Another AD question. . sorry. I've checked out the blurb on the PreSonus web site and it isn't clear whether the Digimax rear panel inputs are just mic preamps or whether I can drive them from line level and/or instrument sources? I know there are a couple of instrument inputs on the front but I'd like to run more into the box at once.

Any ideas?

Cheers,

Mike

Mixer Levels

I have a question, I've taken you guys advice on gettin clear vocals in Nuendo and I think I have gotten them how I want them. THX, my new ? is In the Nuendo mixer while tracking vocals. I want to be able to have the sliders move up and down automatically during the song to level the vocals and keep them all in green. How do I do this? Do I have to do it step by step to get it just perfect?

Mixing: Levels?

On a really basic level, I'm grappling with the
dynamic differences between foreground tracks and
background tracks. Looking at today's releases, it
seems as though background elements are way up in
volume. So you have a vocal track that finishes
it's phrase and then immediately the following
non-vocal section is also way up there in volume.

Setting levels & calibration

Sorry for these questions (and the long post) but...

It’s just that I’m entering what could only be described as a sort of “phase two” to my music production ability. I’m finding more and more, very subtle things are effecting my mixes and I’m on the verge of going from “tight and clean” to “open and big” Sometimes it’s there and sometimes it’s not.
