Peak level @ 0, -0.1, -0.2 or -0.3dBFS?
Out of curiosity what do you guys use as standard?
I know (from listening experience and from a TC Electronic paper) that a lot of consumer CD players will additionally clip the signal beyond 0dBFS when D/A'ing and things are so hot.
In which case I suspect -0.3 instead of 0dBFS doesn't make any difference - probably should be at least -3dB or something..

Reference levels for Broadcast recording.
I produce a broadcast piece. It is spoken word, recorded with a Mackie, a Shure SM7B, Compressor and Motu's DP with an 896HD.
Is -12db normal and -6db peaks the proper, or accetable set of rules for recording/outputting for broadcast audio?
thanks.

Output/Input levels from mixer to audio IF
Hi,
I'm planning to record drums using my PC, Edirol FA-101 audio IF and mixer. Recording will be done using 8 input channels.
Edirol has following inputs:
- 2 x CH with mic preamps
- 2 x CH Line In (adjustable from -10dBu to +4 dBu)
- 4 x Line In (+4 dBu)

i can't seem to get my record levels up with mbox
I have an mbox and I'm trying to send a beat I made on my MPC 4000 and when I do the signal is real weak. To hear it I have to turn the gain way up. THis of course results in my other audio tracks that are from my internal hard drive to be way too loud. Any information will e very helpful.
2nd comp after Gyratec X for levelling purposes
I'm looking for a 2nd compressor to put in my chain after my Gyraf Gyratec X Vari-Mu.
I use the Vari-Mu for warmth, mix-glue, and 2-3dB of compression.
line level preamp
hello, i'm new. hope i'm doing this right...
i was just wondering if anyone knew of any budget preamps that can handle line level? i've searched and anything under 300 dollars can't take higher level input.
i'm trying to beef up the sound of my Korg es-1 sampler.
thanks!
io
[edit] i meant to say TUBE pre that accepts line level

Loudness level in mastering?
This is somewhat related to the previous thread on dynamic range, but with a twist.
I was just marvelling (not) over the amazing loudness difference between some older re-mastered analog Decca recordings (fairly hot), a Dorian release of early music (VERY hot-- turned it down at least 12dB for comfort), and some tasty things from EMI and Nimbus.
