Mixing: achieving healthy levels with the help of VU?
I'm looking to develop some sound techniques for setting relative levels within my mixes. I'm constantly looking at my master fader to make sure it's not clipping and I think this is due to poor practise in setting initial levels.
Dealing with unmatched levels in the mix
Hey,
we just recorded a demo and worked really hard to get the sound to be good from mike placement and such, though I'm sure that's a relative term.
My question is this:

Questions about Headroom / Levels
Wasn't sure where to post this since it's digital audio. But I'm wondering if there are any industry standards with regard to levels when recording.
I'm running a Mackie 1220 with Firewire interface and using the included Tracktion software on a Windows XP machine. My microphones (don't laugh) are a couple MXL's (the $100 combo pack).

problem with live vocal levels
OK, here is my situation...I am running sound at a 500-600 capacity club in my area and this is my first experience in actually building and installing a setup in a venue. I have worked and assisted before in much larger venues with their house systems but never have I been solely responsible for setting up, installing, purchasing, maintaining, and running the whole thing.

Pre Mastering Levels?
Hello everyone this is my first post. Ive been reading around and love the site and information I am attaining.
I am using an Emu 1820M with a Studio Projects B3 mic.
I got 2 Rokit RP5's and getting a sub probably tomorrow.
I record my vocals in mono with levels peaking around -18dB
Which I know is good for headroom purposes.

Standard RMS levels when mastering for DVD?
(I've also posted this in the Audio Video Film section of the forum. I wasn't sure which would be better. In there or in here, Mastering. Sorry ahead of time for the double post!)
So, I'm finishing up the audio for my friends film which is about to be released on DVD and I have a few questions. If any of you could help it'd be great.

Levels of individual elements when mixing
Hi,
I'm a producer of electronic music from Canada, a newbie on this forum.
I have somewhat of a problem when trying to balance individual elements during mixing of a song.
Trance genre requires specific things like a present and strong backbeat with a pronounced kick that doesn't interfere with the rest of the mix.

Live performance levels
Hi guys,
I’m taking a survey. I am trying to get a handle on what average and max SPLs are in the real world. Hope you can help.
What are the highest levels you all have measured for average SPL and max SPL in the middle of a live audience for the following performances?
