These are quite an expensive item new (£1000/$1599) and I can get a used one for £235!

Is this a good piece of kit and would I easily be able to make my money back if I don't like it?

I cant test it as it is a few hundred miles away!

I'm very green at this stuff and i ran across something i just don't get.

I squashed a mix in Wavelab with the L2 to -0.2db with threshold of -7 and Arc on, the wavelab output meter actually read -0.2db, ok fine and dandy.

i have a uad 1 card which has the LA-2A and 1176 as plugins on it. i've been mucking around using them as limiters trying emulate the real deal.

i get hotter, clean signals for sure. but i'm curious to see if any one would choose one of these if they had the real unit. or if they are not really for mastering.

I'm looking for a limiter that works well for vocals.
In my past experience I've had a difficult time limiting a track without hearing the limiter working.

I know that the universal audio LA-2 and 4 work really well, but I don't have a ton of money to buy one.
Can anyone recommend a decent limiter that is a bit more affordable?

I just use Waves L2 on my Master 'cos i know it boosts the volume... but i wanna know the REAL need to use a Limiter on a master... what it affects on a master... what does it does ? What is a limiter ?

Why use a limiter? Why not compress all possible peaks on the MIX and then just normalize the song ?

Are those bare wire hookups I see on the backs of these, or an I missing "high-end audio connection knowledge"?

So what compressor and/or limiter do you guys generally use on a stereo drum bus, regardless on the style of music?

Which for a more "budget" focus?
Which when $$$$ is not much of a big concern?
