How to define a monitor's actual position?

In owner's manuals, they tell you that you when you place the monitors in corners or close to/flush into a wall or on a meter bridge, you must make adjustments to the EQ settings at the back of the monitor to compensate for it. But what these manuals don't define is HOW close you must get to a corner or a wall to be considered close. 3 feet? 10 inches?

Are monitors worth investing in?

I want to know from some experienced people here if I should really save and invest in monitors. I mean, I have a very budget setup that I am happy with so far. But my gear and my budget are very limited. I think that it sounds unwise to spend all that I have on monitors right now, but then again, I don't want something I will have to replace in the near future. My current setup is:

Again with analog tape issues...

Hi, well I wanted to try out the analog tape experiment, so I went out and bought a Tascam 32 1/4" reel-to-reel mastering analog tape machine and started experimenting. Oh my god it's so perfect! In all my 4 or 5 years of experience recording in the digital domain I've never EVER come across this type of sound, it's like having human ears as a recording system, I couldn't understand it!

Suggestions for Mics to get

I'm looking to spend up to $1300 and am in desperate need of some new mics. I don't have much now, but have the purpose of slowly building up my studio as funds permit. I would like to get at least 2 microphones with the $1300, but would be open to any food for thought :) I've been looking at stuff like Neumann TLM 103, AKG C414 B-XLS, RODE K2, NT4 and NT5s, Beyer M 130 & M 160.
