Hey all, I need a bit of advice on a song I'm about to master. I'm in the middle of mixing and mastering three songs - then judging how it all comes out and what mistakes I may have made. This is in prep for 'real' recordings later.

What could one expect to pay to have an acoustic CD mastered, lets say 14 tunes, guitar, mandolin and vocals plus bass which would be all sampled sounds.

Hi all, I was wondering about your thoughts on normalizing certain tracks before mastering. What I mean is, though I have some of the equipment, I'm certainly not going to be mastering myself. I don't even want to learn that badly. Really I want to send all my mixes to a professional mastering studio who know what they're doing.

1)Which Compressor would you use for your Mastering.

1176 (or LA) Bomb Factory, TL Audio C1, Finalizer.

2) Would you make a precompression before the final Mastering with one of these Comps?

I am just curious how other folks are using wavelab?

I tried using montage but it seems to take longer, because if there is a problem with one song you have to re-render the entire montage. Also, it always seems like a compromise to set master effects (EQ, Limiting, etc) so that they work for all songs in the montage.

At early 2003 I finished the tracking, editing and stereo mixing of a short lenght movie. However, it was finally mixed to dolby dts 5.1 at a biiiiiiiiig facility here in Brazil.
When I listened to it at the movies ( ok the sound system was not that grea), it sounded too compressed, I could even listen to noises that were not so apparent at mix time.

As soon as you have downloaded, copied or a/d your client masters.. what is generally your first step?
a) clean the bottom, let us say DC to 40 HZ
b) Make the vocals a little bit more apparent
c) correct dull/overbright
d) check mis inconsistences like snare too buried or dull x hihats too bright/dull x too much sibilance..
