Masterlink
Can anyone confirm if the Alesis Masterlink is one of the best, if not the best format for mixing down to?
...and NO! I DONT WANT TO USE A PC

ALESIS MASTERLINK ML9600 ML 9600 CD RECORDER MASTER
Does anyone own one of these? It looks tempting for a budget minded guy like me, (about $800.00) but would just like to know if this piece is something you see often in the big mastering rooms.
Thanks!

How about a Masterlink upgrade?
I am having clipping troubles with the analog ins. Not that there is bad sound per say, it's just that I know I am not getting the correct headroom from which to work!

Masterlink?
Hello, I'm new to this forum and I have a question about the Masterlink as a 2 track "master deck". I've read that it is a good unit...I would appreciate any recommendations one way or the other.
I record folk type music (acoustic guitar, mandolin and vocals) to a blackfaced ADAT (my first venture into digital).
Thanks to all who reply!
Jon

Masterlink and TC M-One Converters
Hello folks,
I just bought Alesis Masterlink and am thinking about buying TC M one reverb. How would you compare quality of their A/D converters? When I don't use TC as a reverb, would it be a good idea to use it as an outboard converter?
Cheers, Marik

Masterlink or Computer Cd burning?q
Is there any sonic difference in sound quality if you burn your final mix into your computer with a program like DP or logic compared to recording your final mix into the Alesis Masterlink. I own a Apple dual gig G4. I know a lot of people record right intot eh computer or bounce in Pro Tools and burn CD's. I dont care about the storage factor or the mastering effects in the masterlink.

Would I find an Alesis Masterlink Useful?
I don't advertise myself as a mastering guy, but I end up doing "junior" mastering for projects that come in. I am recording to Pro Tools digi 001 and generally burning to CD, mastering right in the PT session.

Masterlink - Dithering comments by Bob Katz
Updated with added comments by Bob Katz about dithering.
I would like to ask a question about the interaction of your Masterlink with the Manley Vari Mu and the massive Passive (or any other brands)- in the mixdown phase and then (home) mastering phase.
When you are doing a mix down:

Masterlink Tutorial?
Is there any literature or a tutorial that can walk me through typical settings used in mastering? I have a Masterlink and am using it for mixdown in my home studio. Not for release, mind you, but for my own songs. I am familiar with the functions ie eq, comp, normalizing by name but the manual does not go into detail about a typical mastering session.

Masterlink remote - What is the deal?
What is up with this remote? I have never expirienced anything like this. You have to be directly in line with the indicator on the Masterlink, or it doesn't work!
Any one else have this problem?
