Hello Guys. I would like to ask somethink about recording Hard Rock / Heavy Metal songs.

While in recording process, who much do i have to leave for the mastering and mixing ? I'm working with Hard Rock and Heavy Metal mostly and need to learn more on that.

I've noticed lately that my Shure condensor mic is crackling, popping, and offering up a metallic static as the result of sharper vocals, IE words that begin with the letter F. Sorry, I can't remember the model I have, something like SCM 1000 or 2000, it was $299.99 about 3 years ago. Any suggestions on how to mitigate this would be great.

I are a engineer (electrical) played in a band in the 80's. So my sons have picked up guitar, drums and vocals, added two friends and boom they have a band. Played a high school gig it was great.

Now I want to capture the live events and record it has to be easy and quick and light.

Hi all... looking for some input regarding volume level when recording heavily distorted guitar in a hard rock or metal context. I'm not recording direct as I haven't found any satisfactory amp modeling software in Ubuntu yet, so I'm Micing the amp into an audio interface.

I am looking into getting some drum mics for both live and studio. We do play a lot of styles of music from straight worship to Heavy Metal. Our main style is Metal though. Because of this I want to get the appropriate mics to get that metal sound. Good high-mids on the kick, nice pop in the snare, lows in the toms... What is your experience with these mics?

Im an audio/video student in northern illinois, my band is tracking drums for our demo and I just wanted to see what kind of advice everyone could throw at me. I plan to close mic toms/snare/kick (2 mics on kick, a bd mic near the outer rI'm and an sm57 near the beaters to get the "click" that us metalheads love) and then doing x-y Micing for the overheads.

A band that i engineer has just got an endorsement from Yamaha. We want a Drum Kit. Very Hard Rock, metal. Want a very mordern sound.

Which Yamaha Drum Kit is best suited. The Stage and Recording Customs as Birch. Are Birch and Maple equal ?

I play a lot of music from the death metal genre. Lots of chuggs, blast beats, and low growls. And to record vocals I've been using a Behringer XM1800S mic (cheap all-around dynamic mic) hooked up to a 30W bass amp, then miked with a Shure c606 all-around/vocal mic. And when listening back, I think it sounds pretty amazing, for a cheap home studio.

Mainly looking for tips/suggestion on mic placement, I'll be using 2 or 3 sm57's, a ksm 27, possibly some other mics...not exactly positive atm. The goal for the outcome is along the lines of For Today, I Declare War, Elysia, In The Midst Of Lions, etc..Anyone care to share their experience?
