Kurt, How far away from near fields?

How far away is resonable to be from my Genalec 1031a's.
I had them behind the console about 5 or 6 feet from me on stands, 6' apart in a triange but moved them to my console top, now I really don't know what I'm hearing. They are in about a 40" triangle now. I know part is the acoustic's but I've "lost that lovin' feeling."

Setting bass freqs. levels using near field monitors

OK, I have near field monitors and head phones as my tools for mixing. For the most part I can get everything to sit well in the mix until I cut to CD and play my work on other systems.

The problems is I do not know how the bass levels will turn up on other systems. Is there a rule of thumb that might help at setting bass levels using near field monitors.

Nearfield monitors and EQ question

Hi all,
Advice please,
When I am listening to my mix thru my Yamaha MSP5s and I have a good sounding mix, I find that when I switch to any HI FI equipment thru their speakers it always sound to bassy or clonky espesialy in and around the 125hz, I have to cut the 125hz quite a bit to make it sound reasonable.

Need help with nearfields

RO is putting together a new feature ... "Best Bang For The Buck DAWs". It's a basic guide, for newbies and intermediates, to help them put together the best DAW to fit their needs and budget.
We have it about 75% complete at this point, but need a little help with a couple of things. I thought that this forum would probably be the best place to get the help needed...

near-field vs mid-field

After looking at various monitors, I noticed that a pair of JBL mid-fields and the Mackie HR824 near-fields were about the same size. If I'm looking for my main set of monitors, should I be going with strictly mid-fields? Is most of the work being done in studios using near-fields? I did some searching on the web but didn't see an answer.

Thanks!
