Recording Vocals - Microphone choices

In the videos I have been producing, we've listened to a number of microphones and how they respond to voice and instruments, but for completeness, we'd not heard them on voices. I'd been working on a little job where I'm creating a stage track for a person I've worked with for years and I always send him the stems, and a guide vocal.

My 2 main vocal mics are an AT4033 and an SM58. Most of the time I wind up using the 4033 as I love the high-endsparkle it has without being at all harsh in any way on my voice. So I am happy with it. That being said, I think I'm beginning to develop the gear addict syndrome that some of you talk about, and I have around $300 that I'm thinking of investing into a new mic.

The singer I'm currently works with sounds awsome on this mic. But I'm not happy with the overall quality of the signal. I may perhaps just have a "bad" one, as my friend did buy it from guitar center 5 years ago, but I've always hear people saying the tone of the mic will be horrible if you happen to get a bad one, not the noise level or sensitivity.

Anyway...
