let's all weigh in on what is the best os for audio

1. os x
2. vista
3. xp
4. linux

the reason for my question is that i've heard XP will only use 2 gigs of RAM effectively. so that means i'm stuck with vista? i can't go with os x because i can't really afford the hardware.

Yea I'm new to pro tools but man i have learn a lot over the past couple days but i have been getting this same message when ever I'm recording or playingback most the time but I cant find a solution. "The operating system held off interrupts for too long. If this occures frequently, try increasing the "H/W buffer size".

Well, I've changed my mind on getting a laptop...I think I'm going to go with a rack mount computer from sonica labs. Do they make specific rack cases for a computer system - for the rack tower, monitor and keyboard, etc?

Whos gonna start off this discussion?. What the hell is gonna happen to all budding new musicians and small record labels with very limited cash looking to find a sweet marketable band to put love and time into, is this another nail in the coffin of the independent label?

Just completed a full opera recording (Lucia) for radio broadcast and was reminded about how difficult it is. The following "constraints" were active.

1. Last minute request, speedy planning, rush to theatre after work etc.
2. No mics to be visible anywhere, except maybe at the top of the pit.
3. Singers all over the stage, including quite a bit from the stage rear.

As I frantically shuffle through a year's worth of paper preparing this year's sales tax payment, I'm thinking I need to clean up my act.

Using windows server 2003 right now. WOrks great and is stable. Cannot get direct x to work out, asio devices are weird. I can use them but but at the same time as wmd drivers and so forth with Samplitude. Fruity loops will not work either, which i make lots of drum click tracks with.

OK - Let's say I have created a Mix/Edit group and I have that group selected and I want to Record Enable that group without going to each track and pressing each individual Record Enable button - is there a way to do this

PLEASE keep in mind that I am USING a PC.

I think I posted about these guys a while ago. They were developing a new pedal that used modelling technologies enabling you to add new effects and upgrade without having to rebuild your board each time.
