Description

A preamplifier, also known as a preamp, is an electronic amplifier that converts a weak electrical signal into an output signal strong enough to be noise-tolerant and strong enough for further processing, or for sending to a power amplifier and a loudspeaker. Without this, the final signal would be noisy or distorted.

DI boxes and/or preamps, increase recording clarity?

I'm very much a rookie when it comes to home recording, but would the use of a preamp and/or DI box in between the instrument and device its being recorded directly into increase the overall results of the recording? or would it only make a real difference if it was recording via a mic then into the DI/preamp then recording gear?

thanks alot

Mic preamps? SOS!

Hey there everyone...I have a pritty basic qustion...
I have a home recording studio where I record mainly drums/other instruments like bass and guitars...its all working nicely but when I try and record Vocals or any other very 'soft' I seem to get realy hard buzzez/all kinds of noises/un-clearnes in the tracks...I use a RODE ntk tube mic to a 16 track Mackie to a digi002.

Ideas on a Good Mic and Preamp?

Ok, I have been looking for a short while for a good mic and preamp combo. The main purpose of these is to record studio vocals, acoustic guitar, and maybe piano as well. Mainly Vocals. Im looking possilbly for tube gear that will give me the warmth, character, and coloration of vintage gear. I have a 2-$3,000 budget to work with, and Im not in a rush to find anything.

ART Mic Preamps

Hey i looking at getting a mic preamp as my next purchase. I'm fairly new to recording so i don't know much. i was just wondering if anyone has used any of those art pres like the MPA GOld or the pro channel or if anyone has any suggestions for a pre under 500. I was also looking at the brick which seems to get really good reviews. i have PreSonus firepod with Cubase 4.

should i bother getting an external mic preamp?

hi there I'm thinking of getting a little external tube mic preamp to "warm and fattern" up my mics sound which is used only to record vocals. the equiptment i have is a RODE nt1000 and a zoom mrs1004 digital workstation. the RODE nt1000 is quite a nice sounding mic but a little too bright so I'm looking for something to warm it up.
