Audient/Digidesign PRE/other affordable 8ch preamp
Hi Folks
I would like to know from you, opinions about (good) affordable 8ch preamps racks...
Between (Digidesign) PRE and the Audient (from Trident), what is your favorite?
Do you know another model that sounds better for the this price?
Thank you very much !
mic preamp for home recording suggestion
hello
i am a home recording musician and i would like to buy a decent mic preamp.
I use Shure KSM27 mic, a mixing console and M-Audio fast track pro. All i need now is a decent mic preamp. Can you make me some suggestions on some pieces worth buying that cost up to $500?

A cheap preamp will make your recordings sound better than no preamp at all correct?

Why won't my mic preamp work on my condenser mic ?
I have an MXL990 mic and I run it through the same stereo microphone preamp that works for my stereo Sony electet mic. Is it because my mic is mono and I need to get the right fittings to go into my stetro preamp ? ...or is it because of my preamp specs ? It was made by a guy that builds them and sells them on eBay: Church Audio ST-20. Here are the specs for the 9-volt driven preamp:
Plugging preamp into FW1814
I've been happily using my FW1814 for a while. I recently purchased a UA Solo/610 preamp to use with it. This pre's output is an XLR. The FW1814 has unbalanced 1/4" inputs on the back and and two combi jacks labelled "Mic/inst" on the front. What's the best way to hook this thing up? Can I run a balanced signal into the unbalanced inputs?

Preamps & gain
I use a Zoom MRS802 multitrack which I simply plug my Mic (RODE NT1a) and guitars straight into. The zoom has phantom power for the mic and a dedicated High Z imput for guitars.
What I would like to do is use an external mixer so that I don't have to keep plugging and unplugging mics and guitars from the zoom unit - it will also give me far better monitoring possibilites.

What's a good, INEXPENSIVE, multi pre to fill in those last 4 channels on the 002? Thanks.
