do you guys use a pop screen when recording vocals with a dynamic microphone?
such as the sm57? got a friend coming in who insists on using the sm57 for recording his voice and i've never recorded vocals with it before. should i let him sing right on top of the mic with his lips touching the grill like he does at live shows? or should i try to get him to back off 6 inches or so like with condensers ? should i use a pop screen?
Nylon Pop Screens
Hi everyone. I'd like to know what you think about pop screens. I bouht one today from Maplin -on this side of the Atlantic it's roughly equivalent to the Radio Shack.
I was quite surprised by the difference it made to the upper end. It's not as invasive as one of those foam windscreens, but I thought these nylon screens were supposed to be transparent.
Any ideas?

Pop screens and high frequency loss.
Is there any validity to high frequency loss during vocal recording with the use of store bought pop screens?. I have been reading a thread on another site and these guys SWEAR there is a marked difference. Using my son as a variable "hissing machine" for starters, I did a with/without, and honestly heard no difference. I have fairly well trained antennae.
