You should be able to do it in vegas where you select your input source. Select your m-audio input to be in stereo...

Are you really recording with only one mic? If so, you won't be able to get stereo since that requires two mics. You should be able to record a single mic to a stereo channel in Vegas but you would end up with the same signal on both the left and right channels.

Are you using a stereo mic?

In vegas,
Preferences / Audio / Audio Device Type / select yours...

Next, Right click the record icon next to the fader on the left hand side of the screen.

Select Stereo input (the nomenclature may differ depending on your device).

You should then have a L/R speaker icon next to the record button.

Arm for record, select the folder that you want the recorded files to be stored in.

Voila!

If you are not using a stereo mic then this is a pointless waste of HD space.
Secondly, even if you are using a stereo mic, you should record one side to one mono track and the other side to another track - you'll thank me later!

i have the akg microphone. it stereo mic. so you're saying its better to record on mono and duplicate that track and copy it to the 2nd pan?

i got the akg 414 microphone. i'm still trying to get my mic to record stereo but still no go. i did exactly what bent told me to do. after i selected m audio in my audio preference, i switch to stereo, it only shows that only the left side is recording.

what i normally do is, i record on one side and i duplicate it and pan it to the right side. it's a little bit annoying because i like to hear my voice on both side of the head phones when im recording. and wouldnt recording on mono affect the sound quality?

OK, so, you have a great mic there, I have been using Vegas for years, I don't really understand your problem.

You have the 414 connected to your preamp input, you have recorded it into vegas...

Sorry...so the question becomes, Why do you want to record a stereo track for mono content? or Why do you think that Snoop Dog records his vocals in stereo?

Vocals are mono and you only need the mono track to record the vocals. You can then record another mono track and then pan the two to make them "stereo" but from what I've heard of Snoops songs, I dont think he does that. One mono vocal track is all you need.

ok the problem i have is that when i record, i only hear my self on 1 side of the headphones. when i use to record at the studio, i would hear my self on 2 side of the headfones. and thats what im use to.

i have my monitors connected on the back of the fasttrack's outputs and my headphones on the front of the fasttrack's outputs.

so, yes i'm using the headphone output. (i hope, im pretty sure)

As it has been said before, record to a mono track and pan it wherever. You will hear your vox in both ears if you record mono. Pan it off center and voila! Stereo.

Chicity,

When you're recording, push in the mono button by the headphone out.

When you are done, push it again to go back to stereo.

Edit> Sorry, the button is next to the 'mix' knob.

Here's why you're only hearing your voice in one ear while recording,

From the Fasttrack manual:

Stereo/Mono Button (Stereo/Mono) – This button toggles the direct input monitoring between stereo and mono operation.

In Stereo mode, input 1 will be heard in the left while input 2 will be heard in the right.
