Description

A preamplifier, also known as a preamp, is an electronic amplifier that converts a weak electrical signal into an output signal strong enough to be noise-tolerant and strong enough for further processing, or for sending to a power amplifier and a loudspeaker. Without this, the final signal would be noisy or distorted.

general questions on mixers, interfaces, preamps

Hi all, I'm in the process of getting the big picture together of what I would need for a home studio. I'm sure you all get this type of question all the time so I tried to break it down and give you specifics of what I'm asking. I would like to have the ability to record live, and still edit afterward, none of that one-track-at-a-time crap.

why seperate preamps?

we intend to buy MOTU 896HD it has eight mic preamps. are they not good enough to record vocals and acoustic guitars through cabinets micing. because we don't have money to buy a seperate mic preamp amp. we thought that this sound card would be sufficient to record our music.
our music sound required is pop rock. but mainly guitar oriented.

preamps

hi i was thinking about getting some preamps.

at first i thought, maybe i should buy neve's, and then i changed my mind and thought that i should buy some vintage api 312's. but after careful consideration, i considered buying the Neve clones by xyz manufacturer. if i don't get those i was thinking about getting the api clones by another manufacturer.

my budget is ~$200

Upgrade Preamps or Converters?

Hey guys,

Im trying to figure out where to toss some money into. I did a preamp shoot out with some different preamps.. some more expensive.. some crap. And found subtle differences depending on what the source was. Would buying nicer preamps (nicer then a digi002 stock) help more as to everything i record pretty pretty much running through them?

Some advice about preamps or mics
