Description

Sampling in music involves taking a section of audio from another source – in this instance, an existing song – and then reworking it into the creation of a new track. Some ill-informed musicians have described it as blatant, shameless plagiarism, but this is an ignorant view point to take.

Sampling

Can any sampling "experts" or aficianados in here tell this novice how one goes about sampling, for instance, the drum parts of a song from a CD (input from a CD player) without the sounds of other instruments/voices in the song mix getting into the sample (i.e., isolating the drum parts)? Does this require a particular kind of gear (or software)? Many advance thanks for your advice.

vinyl > DAW "sampling"

To preface this question: let it be known that although I am not totally clueless about what goes on in the "DJ" world, I am still in the dark on some of it - and most "DJs" I know, don't focus on clarity.

I have been having to sample a lot off of vinyl lately, usually 12". Most often with a tech 1200 or 1210, with a Shure or ortofon cartridge.
