good lord my PC vs Mac question got a lot of action. I thank all of you. You greatly influenced my decision to stick with my original idea of going with a PC. Now I've got another question:

This is a topic that's long-overdue...
There's a lot of new technology that's out, or just about to be out, and it needs to be clarified.

I run a mix plus on a quicksilver 733 with atto SCSI ultra and two IDE drives - what about firewire?

I heard you can only run 24 tracks from a firewire drive... true?
Is firewire as fast as a SCSI ultra (...10`000 rpm)

I'm having SCSI issues here at my place... I'm currently running an Adaptec 29160N and I've run out of space inside my computer case and I'm running out of IDs to put things...

I've got 3 hard drives right now (Ultra 160), a UltraWide PLEXTOR CDRom, and 4 PLEXTOR Plexwriter 12/4/32 for short run duplicating.

Anyone know where to get it? I've got a workstation taht came with an Adaptec SCSI card but was acting funny so I wiped the HDD and installed Win89SE. The card shows up on power on self test, but Win98 won't see the card or the 2 SCSI drives attached to it. Anyone who could help, it'd be great!

Hey all, I'm looking for the software to run my Adaptec 2940 SCSI card. IT was in the computer when I got it, and since I wiped the HDD and installed 98, I don't have the SCSI software. I've got the most current driver from Adaptec installed, but for some reason Win98SE doesn't see the card/drives.

so I'm pretty sure I'm going to go with a SCSI CD-R (Plextor) but was wondering if IDE's were really that bad. it'll be used for audio CD burning and data backup. your thoughts?

Has anyone run into this one?

I've finally purchased my new system but I am having difficulties setting it all up. My system comprises of the following:
- Asus CUSL2-C Motherboard;
- 60 gig IDE Hard Drive;
- 18 gig Seagate Barracuda (ST318436LW) SCSI Hard Drive for Audio (not connected yet);
- Sony (CRX-160S) SCSI CD-R/RW (not connected yet);

..I have this old S1000 with SCSI port on the back, Does anybody know what kind of harddisks (max. gigs)or CDROMplayer I can connect to this port . Do I need to update the software for the sampler? (to which version?)
