signal chain order.
if a question like this one has been posted, i am so sorry.
i had a small argument with my bassist regarding the placement of the compressor. my chain is this: mic > preamp> e.q. > compressor.
his was: mic, >preamp, >compressor, > e.q.
both into the daw.
which would be the correct way? even if it is neither i welcome any suggestion.

Signal Chain upgrade advise please
Hi,
I am currently using PreSonus firestudio as my interface and was plesently surprised with the quality of the preamps/ converters within.
I also use Joemeek Twin Q Studio Channel as my main preamp for vocals etc.
I am looking to improve my signal path to Cubase as I am expanding my studio in an effort to go professional but on a budget.

Frequency Responses in the signal chain
So to me this has a somewhat obvious answer, but I've never actually heard it discussed so I'm not certain, and I'm not sure many people have thought about it too much.

Where in signal chain needs improving/renovating/unf*@%ing
I record electric guitar plus amp with a 57, an electric bass through a di, and vocals with a 58. All recordings done in a living room that sounds good, a very woody, rich sound that resonates well with the singing and guitar.
Let's say I want to spend another 300 to 500.
Here's my chain:

What goes first in the signal chain EQ or Compression?
I am sure that compression should be applied before EQ but I am not completely positive about it. This is my set up:
Microphone to MH3 chanel, ACP-88 to insert and then series to an EQ station, the EQ staion is after the compressor.
Can anyone help please?
Thanks.
Good compressor/limiter plugin with Input Gain? Signal Chain
I am looking for a good Compressor/Limiter plug In for mastering.
One kind of like Sony's Wavehammer with these options.
Options:
Has an Input Gain fader(Wavehammer does not)
Allows Peak and RMS Compression
Ratios up to 50:1 or higher if possible.
Offers a Limiter to limit the Output
Signal Chain Help... Balanced vrs Unbalanced!

I was wondering if anyone could bring me some clarity (of mind AND sound) for my little problem.
