Compressing drums, in general

This is a philisophical question: Drums/percussion seems to have the highest dynamic range of any instrument. They punctuate the music. Because of this, however, compressors grab drums first, it seems, in a stereo mix. Thus, drums get hammered down by compression, losing that flavor of punctuation more, typically, than most instruments. This seems wrong somehow.

2 channel mic preamp picks

Forums

Hey guys,

Lookin for a solid 2 channel mic preamp, with some eq. compression would be nice but not a must. mostly for drums, kick snare typething. if its sweet on other stuff then even better. No tubes. something that sounds sort of like 'f**k you'.

any good/bad words on the joemeek twinq, or toft stuff?

I'm looking in the $700-$1400 range.

Mixing Metal Drums

Hi everyone, Id like to hear some opinions on how to mix a heavy metal drum recording. Ive got this guy coming next week to my studio to record some heavy metal drums. I would like to make a very good Bass Drum sound, which is very important in this type of music.

I would be pleased if someone's got any special tip for this session.

Thanks in advance
