Need advice from members about Microsoft Cloud
Hi gang...
I need my computer savvy friends here to explain to me - preferably in the simplest terms, ( don't rule out using hand-puppets as learning aids if necessary) about the Microsoft Cloud... or about any virtual backup/restoration system...

Soft Knee
Describes the action of a compressor as the signal level crosses the threshold setting. A compressor functions by processing a signal above a certain threshold. Without a soft knee setting, the compressor would immediately begin processing the moment the threshold was reached. In fact this is how a hard knee setting works.

Hard vs. Soft Knee Compression
Hi everyone, first post here, hopefully you can help me out a little. I have a fair bit of experience doing amature recording, and am pretty well versed in the use of audio gear, and the physics of audio (the old Yamaha Sound Reinforcement Handbook is my bible), so I don't think this is a total newbie question.

soft vocals good loud vocals bad
when i sing quietly, really close to the mic, i get a good warm/rich sound
but when i move away to belt-out the vocals it sounds tinny.
is this all about the room and treatment?

Microphone for soft vocals
So here's my situation:
I've been using a cheap $30 computer mic for recording and finally decided to use buy a real mic. I also own two mics which I used for live performances (Sennheiser e838 and e835), and I should mention that I've never actually tried recording with them.

Best Soft Drums
I have Reason and Fruity Loops but the drums don't sound all that hot. What do you suggest?

Pflumpf (spelling?) of bass drum a result of soft clip?
I'm trying to get that smooth high frequency pflumpf (did I spell it right?) of the bass drum in professionally mastered songs. Is it just an artifact of a really expernsive volume maximizer with soft clip? Or of tape saturation? Do my ears deceive me that the soft clipping is also a bit wider in the stereo field?
