On a DIY mission!
Okay, I'm sick of being afraid of my soldering iron...
Here's what I'm planning to start with.
I have a ART ProVLA. I kinda like it on a lot of things, but I want better and more! So, here are the first things that I'm gonna attempt.

Shure SM82 - anyone know how to use this thing?
A local pawn shop had a couple of these mics and after doing a little research on them decided to pick one up for the relative bargain price they're selling them at. The mic is an odd one...a broadcast mic with built in amplifier and limiter that puts out a line level signal. It is set up to use a battery (that's no longer available) or phantom power.
Need DIY assistance -- Kev or Zilla?
Okay - so my PreSonus Central station has gone flakey. The rackmount portion works fine, but the gain control on the remote is terrible. It scratches and cuts out on both or either channel on its own.
I shouldn't have expected anything more though from PreSonus...

shorting or non shorting
If you were bulding a stepped attenuator using a 12 position switch for example what kind of contact type would you use shorting or non shorting.
thanks

Live Stereo vs. . Multitrack, (was Location Line Mixer)
I am thinking of getting one of these as our new state of the art location line mixer.

Need help inventing
Okay, so I'm not an electrical engineer. Listed below is an accurate accounting of my stupidity. Please help.
I am trying to create a line in/line out device with faders for the purpose of attenuation of an incoming signal. Kind of like a mixer, but without any extraneous stuff such as Pres, sends, returns, etc. Simply line in --> Attenuation --> Line out.

Recording a solo violin in stereo or mono
Hi, I'm just starting out and want to exclusively record solo violin. I wondering if it's better to record it in stereo or mono? Considering that I'm just starting out, would it wiser to spend my dollars on a better quality mono setup or a lesser quality stereo setup. Thanks.

RNP, Sytek, SP 828 vs. . . "The Brick"
I was doing a recording session last week and was recording drums. I ran out of mics for the drum kit so one of the guys brought a SM58 with him. We used the sm 58 Hanging right over the Ride cymbal, about 2 inches up and away from the bell.
I ran that thru the RNP preamp and I was pleasantly surprised. Acutally blown away.

custom racking
Hello, can anyone recommend a place to rack a couple of Langevin AM16 mic preamps with maybe polarity switching, phanto & input/output controls? Other than Mercenary since they seem very high priced.
