Micing a strings quartet ?

In the next days, I have to record a strings quartet formed of two violins, an alto violin, and a cello.

I'm going to use two condenser mics (Beringher B1, and Tascam LD-74 made by MXL) in a Tascam USL-122. I don't have too many choices with the mics. I also posted on Audio ProGear forum, because I plan to buy two tube preamp for that (VBT-1, or ART V3, or TubePre).

Strings on a budget?

I record mainly acoustic guitar based songs using Logic Pro. i would like to enhance some of my songs with some basic orchestration and have looked at a few options.

I am now thinking of East West Symphonic Orchestra Silver edition as it seems very well priced and also has a decent Steinway Piano within its instrument set.

Changing to heavy gauge strings on acoustic guitars with no truss rod

Ok, so my parents went to Peru for a while and brought me back this beautiful acoustic guitar made by a small Peruvian shop called Effo Guitars. Upon first playing this acoustic, it sounded great and was very easy to play. However, it had ridiculously light gauged strings on it, which are not suitable for the style of music that I play.
