I simply used one overhead dynamic mic which ran directly into my computer, no interface. I then used several filters in Adobe Audition to liven up the sound. I wasn't going for a polished sound...

What effects do musicians such as Maynard James Keenan (TOOL) and singers like Chino Moreno (Deftones) and other bands with vocalists similar to these mentioned use.

Do these guys use effects like a guitar has pedals and effects applied to it.

What are the effects these guys use. or what are the effects do you use >

Hey guys, I'm planning on recording a new song for my solo project and for the vocals during the verse I want to have my voice sound different, like with an effect on it. The type of sound I want is like what Billie Joe's voice sounds like on the verses of American Idiot, it sounds like it has some reverb and maybe a little bit of a like megaphone sound.

What is this, what information is in the columns, and how can I use this technique in my mastering projects (is there a blank template like this out there somewhere)?

I'm sure it's obvious to most of you, but the right column are the album's track titles.

Hey guys, I'm about to start a session with an acoustic guitar musician (mostly strumming emo stuff). I'm looking to find some advanced Micing techniques. I have seen a few dvd's of instudio footage where the engineer has placed the following setup: pencil facing the sound hole, large diaphragm facing the neck, then two large diaphragms on each side of the guitar.

Hey I'm just getting into recording and have found that everything recording i have done so far to sound... um idk clean and new I'm not sure how to explain it. I have Cubase 4 and a firepod. a bunch of sm57s, beta 52, AKG perception 200. I'm looking for that 60s/70s style sound without going into analog.

Today someone - let's call him Phil (not his real name) - attempted to explain a calibration technique that he claims is regularly used by “all the best engineers”. As I am having difficulty following the logic behind this technique, I present it to you for discussion. The technique he conveyed is as follows:
