Although you can use those lovely studio microphones outdoors, I highly DON'T recommend it. Why? Because they're studio microphones not outdoor microphones.

I think you would be better suited with a short shotgun/directional microphones with a blimp/furry windscreen, such as used in outdoor movie/TV and News production. The small capsule of the shotgun microphones makes for better off axis sound pickup, strangely enough. Whereas the large diaphragm condenser microphones have many more problems trying to capture and reproduced off axis sounds, without sounding cloudy. So my recommendation is to use what is designed infrequently utilized in outdoor situations. And no, you don't have to have the microphone on a boom pole, it can be handheld or on a standard microphone tripod stand.
