My question is related to Midi and not to Ableton strictly, and since I'm using Ableton I will post it here.

I just downloaded Midi Automator, a program that should let me quickly switch between Ableton Live sets with a simple midi message, without even going near the computer.
This program works fine, but since a midi device can only be used by one program, in order to send midi messages to both Midi Automator and Ableton (I want to start/stop Ableton remotely) I have to install a third software like rtpMIDI, that will (in my understanding) receive the midi commands and route them to one program or another.

My problem is that I can't make this happen. rtpMIDI is quite simple to set up, but midi data just doesn't go through.
The rtpMIDI port show up correctly in both Ableton and Midi Automator.
I'm on windows 8 and the midi controller is a 10-12 years old Behringer UMX61 keyboard connected via USB.
If I see this can be done I will replace the Behringer with a pedal controller.

I also tried CopperLan, which is a program that allow to set up complex midi networks, but this doesn't work either.
Also I'm not really sure how to set up CopperLan properly (which channels to choose).

Any idea what could be wrong in my system?
