OK, maybe this is a really dumb question, but I just wanted to check.

when Cubase 4.1 does finally come out, it's going to be 64 bit right? which means that it'll be able to address way more RAM, right? so when i get a mac pro after a hardware refresh and 10.5 comes out, i'll be able to pack as much RAM as i can afford in there and C4 will be able to use it, right?

am i going to be able to run all my plugins from Komplete 4? what about reason 3 via rewire?

any idea if i'll still be able to take projects back and forth from a 64 bit Mac Pro and my 32 bit macbook?

is that too many questions for one post?
could i use the word right a few more times?

Thanks!

LAA means large address aware, right?

so the question seems to be whether that 4 gig limit is per instance of a plug in or total for the project?
so either way the plugs should at least still run fine, right? even if they can't take advantage of all the RAM?

i'm so confused. :-?

thanks for the response.

total 4Gigs period. as VSTi thru Cubase or standalone.

while no samples i know of are laa expect for EW Play and those samples ready for Play.

corporately they could use up to a total of 4 gig.
2 for NI 2 for halion etc...

in XP you get 3 of the 4 gig minus any memory hole hardware (UADs/poco etc)
in order to access 4 gig in its entirety you need Win XP 64. the question then becomes do you want to have the hassles and headaches of a 64bit OS that does not like to work with everything in hopes of accessing the 4Gig total.

Vista performance is pathetic so its out (for now)

once Cubase is 64 bit one should be able to access 8Gig or more. but again this is a double edged sword.
as most samples are NOT laa.

i have heard of people using 2 seperate instances of NI (have to rename the .exe or something)

Where do you get that from? Cubase SX3 runs much smoother for me in Vista x64 than XP. And I've seen a bunch of benchmarks pointing the same direction. The only thing vista seems to lag behind in is gaming, since video card drivers are pretty unmature still.

HI,
i get that from our own tests, other user experiances and 2 other Daw builders.

only 1 company (who builds daws) has made this claim and they have been made fools of by the rest of the daw building community.

just to list a few. the article that you have to pay for is well worth the $1.95.

NO ONE who actually knows what they are doing has found an improvement with Vista. (assuming you can benchmark 2 indentical units side by side.
