I have researched a number of the "china syndrome" offerings :) and would like some learned opinions on what I perhaps should purchase. This one mic will be used on a male vocals for a demo to be produced in yes. .a home studio environment. I've twice read great reviews about the Studio Projects C1. However, I did gag a bit when I read that the perception of the midrange freq's were "scooped" out in two of these reviews, and have actually noticed this in a downloaded wavefile of someone doing a side-by-side with a RODE Nt1000 with vocals (Finnish fella' no less!) at varied distances. I am prepared to spend upwards of 300-400 buckeroos for this tool. Any suggestions? Anybody with ADK usage experience? Thanks in advance :) -----ROB

It was probably my little shootout you heard. I´m Swedish. Anyway, the C1 is a great vocal mic, as is the NT1000, though being a bit more neutral, the NT1000 works well with most stuff you throw at it. I find myself using the NT1000 more on my voice, but that´s probably just me. An engineer-friend of mine preferred the C1´s vocal sound to the NT1000, and they both sounded WAY better than his ADK A51sLE´s. I let him use it when tracking a great talent (tenor) at his studio some weeks ago. He didn´t need any EQ.

Thanks for the responses guyz!
First, what other mics do you have, and what have you liked or not about them on vocals?
2 SM57'S and a SM58 that will serve my performing mic
Second, what are you using for a preamp, and may we assume you already have a source of phantom power? Different mics will pair well with different preamps.
A VCQ3 "Meekster" :) (100 bucks...yahoooey!)

You bet it was, Mats. I enjoyed that presentation IMMENSELY. Thank you so much. The problem is I can't get those MP3'S play anymore! :( Is there a problem on the server???
Thanks a bunch you two! ----ROB
P.S. Any other thoughts on a good mic for my needs would be most humbly appreciated.

.....and it's real funny. I have a great ability to scour the web with the best search engines available known to man, and YOU, yes YOU, Mats, are the only individual I could find who made available a side-by-side comparison which I think is the most USEFUL way to judge the subtly different nuances of these two mics. Thanks from the U.S.A.!!! :w:

Hey, what am I, chopped liver? If you go back a few months right here in this forum, you'll find some pretty detailed reviews of a lot of different mics. Here's two I found quickly:
Chopped liver??? I love that stuff. My mom made chopped liver TO DIE FROM! OY!!! :( I appreciate your response and will always look forward to your "pearls". Thanks mucho beans. ----ROB

It's really a no-brainer. Mars is selling the V67M for $99 right now. Go buy one. You'll like it.
I found some mp3s of a group called "The Touch" that I recorded last year, using the V67G as the only vocal mic. The fact that he's a great singer didn't hurt either.

My apologies,
I just found out these mp3s are 48k and the band added some extra eq and reverb to the mixes. I can't tell on my crappy sound card. I can't seem to post mp3s from this computer using any encoder without getting a lot of extra noise. I'll keep working on it.

No need, Harvey. I trust your good judgement and I ordered the V67. How can you go wrong for a decent "copycat" at 100 bucks? I am sure it will serve me and my mission more than adequately. You have been of great assistance to me and probably hundreds of others. You are quite a "mensch". Thanks and I will gladly send you a sample of my original work at a later date upon completion if you wish. Thanks again, ---ROB

I have gotten nice vocal tracks from my MXL V67. Mars is unloading them for $99 now. I felt mine was a bargain at $150. I call it the "bestest-cheepest" of the Chinese right now.
Two questions would help us make recommendations beyond just some guy on the web(like me) whom you don't know saying "I got this and it rocks!".
First, what other mics do you have, and what have you liked or not about them on vocals?
Second, what are you using for a preamp, and may we assume you already have a source of phantom power? Different mics will pair well with different preamps.
Happy recording!
