OK I need some help.
I have a digi002 and am wanting to record my drums. I am going to trigger the bass drum, rack tom and floor tom through my DM5 and mike the snare with a sure SM58a through a Sebatron pre (yet to be purchased)..i am wanting to buy the vmp-2000.. my question is, do i need to send my overhead mics through a decent preamp as well or will the pres on the 002 rack be sufficinet to get a decent sound?
thanks.

Overheads are extremely important in the overall sound of the drums. If you do your overheads right, then sometimes all that is needed is some kick and snare added in and it sounds great.

I would most definitely get a good stereo preamp for my overheads, and make sure you are using decent microphones also. This is especially important since you are triggering several of the drums. It will be necessary to have the overheads give a good "picture" of the complete drumset. Otherwise it won't sound right.

you could pick up a used sytek for the overheads with bb on 3 and 4.
although i would check out a VMP4000E as an option.that is the four channel model of the same preamp ithink.Maybe youy need those two extra channels.I have heard some drum rec ordings done through vmp it was very impressive.i don't think it's that much more expensive for the two extra channels.
