Hello,
I have never attempted a 'Blumlein' recording (including today w/ 2 Royer R-121 's) where I didn't have to flip the phase on one mic. Is this a given?
Thanks in advance.

I must give an update.
The recording in question was as follows: a great drummer, on his way back to Norway that night. Swings by...I pay him lots of money...we start three drum tracks. Overheads sound out of phase. I grab two new mic cables still in the bag (Canare from Markertek) believing this to be true 'trouble shooting'. We HAD to start recording as he was leaving for the airport soon. The next day, upon realizing the tracks were out of phase, I went on this quest to find out what could be wrong. I can't go into all of it, but you can imagine the angst and confusion. I'm pulling out tracks I recorded years ago, checking this & that...no problems. AAHH!! OK...I have a different console now. Check this, check that. Post for help here. Blah, blah.....
Last night I looked at those two brand new cables and thought, "Mmmm? You don't suppose?" I got out a meter and to my utter SHOCK...one cable was wired out of phase. I swear I was stupefied! I sat there with the weirdest grin on my face. ALL that BS time and thinking and asking and checking and asking and questioning my position in the universe.....BRAND NEW CABLE WIRED WRONG. Go figure.
Tomorrow I will be making a FU-uh-UN phone call. I'll let you know if I end up owning part of the company (HA).
Sincerely,
Benjy

Alan Dower Blumlein A pioneer in stereo, some say he invented it although he never called it stereo but rather binaural. Died in an airplane crash in 1942, while working on the development of radar for the British government.
