That sound like a good DAW, but I agree with Cavepainter that you should go for a WD 40 Gb 8 Mb Cache for OS-drive.
Well, you should maybe get a good silent case...
since you also live in Sweden you should take a look at this place: http://www.whynoi.se/ They have silent cases and silent PSU's.
What about OS? Are you going for XP-pro?
And finally after getting this dream-DAW, you should do the [[url=http://[/URL]="http://www.opusaudi…"]"Opus-tweaks"[/]="http://www.opusaudi…"]"Opus-tweaks"[/] on your OS.
Good Luck!
Sounds good but why the 40 gig drive? Why not partition the 120G
Sounds good but why the 40 gig drive? Why not partition the 120GB drive? 4gb for O/S install, 36gb or so for applications and the rest for files. That way if you hose your o/s you can just format the one partition that your operating system is on and not lose any of your other files.
Save money on that drive and lose the m-audio audiphile card and get an Echo Mia or M-Audio Delta 44/66.
As for drives, I'd stick with Toshiba, Plextor or Lite-On. Everything else looks good! Make sure you get a big case to put all that hardware in! Get a big (at least 350 watts) name-brand (Enermax, Antec, Vantec) power supply too, you dont want a cheap one to crap out on you and take half your system with it. Don't expect games to fly with that video card but it should be fine for everything else.
What monitor are you going to get? It's probably the most imporant piece of any computer system!!
I'll triple the recommendation for the 8MB cached drive as well.
I'll triple the recommendation for the 8MB cached drive as well...40GB is really the most you would want as the OS and App drive realistically. Really the best thing to do is use a 20GB but there is no 8MB cached 20GB drives out there!
The reason for a smaller single partitioned drive is less strain on the read/seek time. The less platter space it has to look on the better.
I don't really recommend install apps anywhere else but your main drive as it keeps the registry paths cleaner and smoother!
Cheers

Hi guys-
I just wanted to throw in my $.02 on this one since I've been putting together some sytems recently and I've settled on a config which seems to have some benefits.
I find it convenient to partition the system drive in at least two chunks with an 8 to 10 gig partition for the OS and apps. As mentioned this keeps everything in a smaller partition for the sake of defragging and Ghosting and also prevents the head from having to jump around the whole drive. The remaining partition on the system drive is useful for data backup from the audio drive and I also make some folders to write mixdown files from CubaseSX and Nuendo. I find it better to write mixdowns to a different drive than the one that they are being read from. I used to get some glitches in my old system when I wrote mixes back to the audio drive and I don't anymore and I suspect that this approach helps.
I also create several partitions on the audio drive these days. I use 80 to 120 gig Maxtor Plus-9 drives with 8Meg cache lately so I make two or three 40 gig partitions and I keep current work in one and move inactive projects to the others. This saves time when defragging since you only have to defrag the active partion as needed.
The current system spec which we build for Nuendo and CubaseSX is:
P4 2.4 B-Step
Asus P4PE A/L
512MB Crucial DDR-SDRAM PC-2700
40GB maxtor Plus-9 System
80GB maxtor Plus-9 Audio
Promise ATA-133 Controller Card
Yamaha CRW F-1
Enermax 435 watt Whisper PSU
WindowsXP Pro
CubaseSX or Nuendo
RME Hammerfall-DSP Audiocard (Mutiface/Digiface or 9652)
Sounds great. I would use WD 40GB 400JB instead for the system d
Sounds great. I would use WD 40GB 400JB instead for the system drive. 8MB cache instead of 2MB for an extra $11. Smoking!! :D
