That's a tough call. My question is why hasn't he gotten anywhere yet? If he's as good as you say he is there must be a reason he hasn't been picked up. I'm just playing devils advocate here. Working with talented people is always a joy but you have to keep your perspective. Just do the absolute best work that you can for the man and turn him on to whatever contacts you may have. Make his sessions as productive, comfortable and fun as you can. If he ever does make it big maybe you can ride on his coat tails and be his go to guy whenever he goes into the studio.

My first experiences with truly talented and disciplined artists taught me a lot about myself, my limitations and ignorances as well as my strengths. By staying positive, working efficiently, and doing everything I could to learn what I needed to know by the next session I kept a number of the clients and have been working with them for years.

Thanks for the comments Uncle Bob. Well the reason he hasn't been discovered yet is simple. He doesn't think that he's as talented as I do, he has never recorded anywhere, and doesn't play out at all. He's a professional artist (paints portraits) by trade, and just writes songs for his own enjoyment. The first song we tracked blew me away. I thought to myself that he couldn't have many more of that caliber, but every song he did was absolutely rock solid both in writing and performance. I think I will do what you've recommended. I will do my best to catch the emotion and get solid tracking, and then maybe send what I've done to someone with more experience with mixing and mastering. Maybe there are producers with good contacts on this site that will let me send his stuff for evaluation. Thanks again.

If you don't have any contacts yourself - lawyers, A&R, etc. who can walk into a record company's office and personally put it on the desk of an executive, it's pretty tough.

You could always try TAXI. Don't know enough about it to endorse it, but it's a possibility.

Before you do, do a search for TAXI in the archives, and those on Tapeop. You won't find much in the way of positive comments...

I recommend moving slowly. Help him play some live shows if he hasn't performed live often. Get him playing a couple of thimes a month in various locations. Help him get a CD together to sell at shows. Get him on the festival circuit. Build up a following. he isn't going to get signed at his age unless he has a big following. David
