Hi,

First post on this forum..i feel like I stumbled on a gold mine! its great!

Confused between Layla 3g and an RMEmultiface with pci interface. The RMEsetup will cost me $300 more and I will not be getting two mic preamp-amps...I dont know too much about the AD/DAs on both cards..

1) Are the pres on the layla "good enough" or should I get RME and get external pres?

2) Is RMEthat much better than layla? The layla3g is a much newer board than the legendary rme...

3) could I achieve the same low latencies on layla as with rme? Say 8 channels monitoring with reverb, eq, compressor soft plugins on each...

Any advice appreciated. I read alot, seems that RME is more pro, but all posts I read were referencing the old echo products...not layla3g...my budget is $900 for a new sound card.

THanks!
Skimo

Curse me for not being able to read German! I wunder what is different with the Multiface2? I should probably sell my Multiface1 right now so I am ready!

But yeah, Multiface 8-)

I have heard weird stories about people that liked their original Layla's better than the new 3G's, so.....
And don't put to much hope in the included pres. But if all you would have budget for is some kind of ART or Presonus ToOb outboard pres, then it won't matter much anyway.

sweet :)

But will I be able to get the Multiface II and the PCI card and a (better than the echo) mic pre for under $900??

I dunno, I am not really a proffessional yet, I have always worked with external hardware and used an SB Live (kx drivers) for recording on a single channel. Wandering if RME is too much for a 6 year experience person like me....or is layla3g good enough.

I forgot to mention that my greatest need is to be able to monitor 8 channels with quality soft plugs (good eq, good compressor, good reverb) with < 10ms latency at 48khz....

I did not get a new pc yet, I have $1300 to spend on that. im looking at a 3.4ghz 2mb cache, 2gb ram , newest intel chipset and MB...and lousy graphics card

Thanks
Skimo
