Hello all,
I play with and record a band named Sirens Grey. We recently finished our EP with the gear that I currently own (pretty entry level) and would like to eventually, in the next year or so, rerecord those songs along with several more- now that we have a little experience. My question is concerning a vocal mic; I have heard that certain vocal mics work wonderfully with some people and that the same mic could sound terrible, or at least not very good, with a different voice. Im looking to basically go through all of my gear and upgrade piece by piece and was wondering of any of you would be kind enough to listen to a song or two and recommend a microphone or preamp that you think would match our singers voice- I would like to spend around 1-2k for each (and of course less if comparable). Thankyou all very much.

FWIW, the SolidTube and the U195 are nothing alike. Apples vs oranges. The U195 is a great tool, a real piece of gear. The SolidTube, which I had the horror to deal with a couple of years ago, was "spitty", "splatty", and anemic (all at the same time!). As far as the Langevin is concerned, I made the very big mistake of selling my DVC for a True P2. I could kick myself. Good stuff.
thanks for the imput. i realize they are apples and oranges, but
thanks for the imput. i realize they are apples and oranges, but my experience with nicer microphones is so limited that im very open to suggestions. the reason i mentioned the solidtube is because i was able to try one out and compared to what i had been using it sounded wonderful... but then again, im sure theres mics that would sound a whole lot better- which is why im asking. thanks again; all suggestions welcome.
