These people really piss me off.

#30 years I been doin this and I still dont know whut I'm talking about.

I gotta say I like yer idea better. I owned a GP8 for years. Its like the Roland 3000 digital delays....theres been something different built...just not better in terms of tone.

AC30 strikes me the same way. The reissues are actually better sounding amps....at least they're more consistant.

Guitars sounds do NOT come from the programed release of a digital process. Guitars are MECHANICAL....(see Leo Fender)...

Electric guitars....like acoustic guitars....have body vibrations, neck coupling, environment being played in, all the same issues.

Negating these things and calling it guitar is bogus.

It is indeed a 'musical part' being played on a guitar, but without the speaker reacting to voltage reacting to voltage reacting to a means to start sympathetic and melodic vibrations on a string being translated by a MAGNET ...then it aint guitar.

Just my view.

I agree with Davedog about the benefit of Guitar + Tubes + Speakers and a dash of processing power at the front when you want it.

Plenty of pro's track big tones using small watt amps like the Champ, Pro Junior, AC30, or maybe a JMP-1 pre and sometimes doubling the guitar parts direct through a processor like the GT-8 or POD XT. Some even route their processor to a JMP-1 or amp head or combo and use the line out into the console or mic the combo. So, again, the more options you have by owning a nice muti-processor AND an amp, the more creative you can be and the more tonal variety you have access to when tracking different styles of music, different tones, different parts (i.e., leads, rythm, ambient background and pure effects). For some ambient work sometimes direct in through a Line 6 or Boss unit is all you'll need.

But to only have one option, to track guitars direct through a multi-effects processor is the worst advice I've ever heard.

I can tell you from experience the guys at GC here in Albuquerque don't even know what a shielding kit is. Nor do they know the difference between a 250K-ohm volume pot and a 500K-ohm pot.

Only having a multi-effects processor to record with only leads to great disappointment.

ditto here. u need both a processor and an amp. your idea of running it thru the ac-30 and micing it is solid. i do record direct gtr every once in awhile -- but only as a effect-- not as my only gtr tone. ac-30 is a killer-- i have a modified reissue. there ARE cheaper/different options (small old fenders etc) but they are just different not better. hard to beat the vox-- i'll never part with mine...best of luck!

i just remembered-- when i was younger i spent an enormous amount of time and $ searching for "that tone"-- lots of boxes, cheap amps etc. when i got the vox the search was over-- i shoulda just bit the bullet and got quality to start with and i woulda saved alot in the long run!

GT-8 into the AC30....Questions.

So it was mentioned (explained) to me, that if I run the GT-8 into the AC30 that the amp simulation (signal) the processor sends, when it goes through the gain stages and amplification of the amp itself, might conflict with what the amp wants to do with the signal (in its physical circuitry) yielding undesireable results.
This is a concern because I really wanted to see what the GT-8's dual COSM feature could push out of the amp.
Any feedback is anticipated and appreciated.
