I have an M-Audio 1814 but do have the opportunity to upgrade to an RME Fireface 800. Any thoughts on this? In the past I've had PCI cards from M-Audio and RME and liked the RME's (DIGI96/8 PST) analog outputs much better, though it looks like the 1814 has improved from older products. I'm really interested in the quality of the converters on the RME.

Thanks -- made the switch, feels more like my existing rack stuff, so I think it will feel at home :-). Already have a DIGI96/8 PST, which I always thought sounded great, so could probably use them together somehow. Some have been complaining about the lack of inserts on the mic preamps, though I think I can work around that.

The RME Fireface 800 is by far the best firewire audio interface ever made.
Not only the AD/DA conversion is pristine due to RME's steady clock technology and very high quality converters and filters but the preamps are of excellent quality too.
Can't go wrong!
