I'm seriously interested in a Mackie Control but I have a major question first. I do all my monitoring through an external desk, a Mackie D8b to be precise. Because I do this I have my buffer set to 2048 as latency isn't an issue and I get more out of my computer out of my computer. I can't remember the exact figure of latency but it is roughly 48 ms. If I connect a Mackie Control via MIDI will the control of Cubase (SX3) be delayed from when I move a slider on the Mackie Control? Will it seem sluggish and unresponsive? I don't want to spend a load of money and then find it does my head in !

I really don't advice to help you with your problem, I'd just like to say that if your going to help sombody with a post try and read the whole thing so your reply doesn't look as stupid as this guys. Sorry to be a jerk but it looks like you only read like five words of what this guy wrote.

The latency settings of your sound card only reflect the sound card. Your controller will not be affected by that latency.
Most control surfaces have settings in which you can dial in better resolution on faders and knobs. I'm not sure if the Mackie Control has that or not but I would hope it does. My Radikal SAC has that and it's a great feature.
I think Hociman is right in that the d8b should be able to control the faders and transport within Cubase...I'll check on that for you.
Mud5150- If you're going to post, don't bother posting like that. Hociman did answer his question, maybe not indepth but it was answered and he asked a question back to Ted. Here at RO it's considered rude to simply post like that. Please don't do that again, ok?!
Cheers

Stop wasting bandwidth. I read his whole post, and I commented on the latency of a MIDI control surface.
Just because I indirectly answered the question about audio latency by answering the question of MIDI latency doesn't make my reply look "stupid".
Think before you type. If you have nothing good to type, don't start.
no? The d8b cannot control Cubase? You may notice some latency
no?
The d8b cannot control Cubase? You may notice some latency, because MIDI as a fixed data rate that is as fast as a modem. I only know one engineer that would complain about the latency of MIDI controllers, and he just got a MCU. You should be fine.
