Ok, so I got a Mackie 8 bus dirt cheap... of course there was a catch, all the in-puts seem to work fine but when it come to the buses and routing it is having some trouble... basically the signal comes in and i send it to either bus or main mix and it either only comes out mono (should be stereo) on the main l/r mix or doesn't come out the bus I directed it to... etc. what i'm asking is if I take it to a repair shop is this fixable?

IIRC, these are routing issues caused by the summing/routing switches.
Should be repairable if you can't find the cause yourself.
Cost may be a bit of a different story though.
How are you with a soldering iron?
Depending on the model, you might be able to crack the case and dig through the routing switches yourself.
It sounds like maybe something got spilt over the master section and some of the switches were cooked.
Just a guess.

This may not be the same problem you're experiencing, but I've been told there were problems with the multipair ribbon wires that connect to various systems in the mixer.
I have a 1604 VLZ thats' currently in the shop for various "mysterious" and intermittant problems with some of the buses and outputs. When I left it with the tech, he said: "Oh yeah, that sounds like bad ribbon connectors; there's an upgrade kit for that; replace the ribbon wires and most of them will go away."
I'd mention that to your tech when you take it in for repair... Good luck with it!

The ribbon cable fiasco was during a 2 year period, I think 2001 through 2003. I have a 32-8 and had the ribbons replaced, solved many issues for me. The other consideration is if the previous owner smoked, you might just need some contact cleaner/lube and go over all the bus assign switches. Caig Labs makes several products worth buying. Always try the cheap fix first.

So I took it to the shop yesterday and they called me and they said they gave the whole board a once over and said it is in great shape except the ribbon cables. So I said God bless and it's being fixed as we speak. Jonyoung how much did the ribbon cables cost you? Thanks everbody

It seems like bus 5 isn't getting any signal and the when assigning a channel to the L/R mix it only comes out left, but when sending a signal from say bus 1-2 then sending bus 1-2 to L/R mix works fine. What do you think is the caus eof this? bad connections?
