I use my laptop with sonar to assist in mixdown. So I can take my tracks wherever and work on them. I find a problem when I have my computer plugged in to a wall outlet that I get a very annoying hum in my speaker system. To correct the problem I bought a ground lift adapter from the hardware store. Put that in between my powercord and the outlet and the hum was gone. I'm guessing that this is probably the problem with your system as well.

I have a friend who has this problem with his laptop. Can you tell me about this ground lift device and where to get them?

The device is basically a thing about an inch or so long. On one side is accepts a standard US three prong plug, however, instead of having three plugs on the other side it only has two. It bypasses the US standard ground circut on US power plugs. It's really a simple device. You can pick it up just about anywhere in the hardware department by the electrical cords generally.

After trying anything else I could think of I put the laptop in to get it serviced - apparently there is no grounding fault on the machine, so I assume its some sort of ground loop fault... Just wanted to ask/say, arent ground lift devices potentially dangerous?
