Watsup guys,
I am currently running a pc using nuendo and Apogeeconverters, But it is becoming painfully obvious that I need to get Pro Tools. My question is what advantages, other than the high sampling rate, does the Hd have over mix plus. I can get a mix plus loaded with plugins for about half the cost of an HD rig, in which I would have to shell out a couple thousand just to get the essential plugins. What are the differences in the software itself, in the computers I can use them on, and any features in HD that you cannot live without. I really appreciate any responses.

Sure and that's why it costs more than the double.
If you got good oudboard equipment Mix+ is more than enough. I work with Mix+ since 1 year and I'm really lucky with it. Of course I would like to have a HD system but I can wait. That's my opinion.
I've heard heard many Produktions made on a PT HD but I don't think that they are better than mine or the opposite of course. I know some Produktions they are made with old PT III. They are good also.

the hd system has a lot more power than the mixplus systems.. the new accel system is the most powerful pt system around.. the dsp chips have a lot of power.. 192tracks at 48khz, 96 at 96khz and 32 at 192khz with the accelhd3...
i'm a nuendo2.1 user that is switching also.. i'm not switching for good. i'ma have 2 studios.. 1 with the new accel hd3 and a nuendo2 system with apogee converters. i love nuendo but i'm really liking TDM right now

no one seems to mention this. Mix systems use TDM1 mix engine, HD uses a newer redisgned TDM2 mix engine. I belive in mix regular tracks were at 48 bit resolution when the engine was doing math, when you move to an aux its 24 bit math. In HD the whole entire mixer is at 48bit resolution. How the mixer uses the HD chips are done more efficeintly too. Check digi's website for all the info. Other than the extra horsepower, I think that has to be the bigest improvement.

Sounds good and great but I have to win the Lotery first. Till then I'm gonna work with my Mix+ and thank God that TDM1 is still good enough to make good Produktions.....AMEN ;)

Hi!
I am also a PT TDM Mix + user, under the very reliable 5.1.1/OS 9.2 combi.
I guess lots of PT HD users got pissed off with this HD Accel thing. So why didn´t they release Accel core cards also since day one?
Yes, PT HD sounds better, but are we willing to pay so much for let us say 18% better sonics?
Also, nice plugs got dropped like Lexiverb and TC Master X 5 band.
Maybe they release it now (TC, Lexicon, etc) under 96k/192k once new plugs are much more powerful.
I do not think 6.x/10.x is as reliable as the old horse combi I mentioned earlier. Lots of people getting problems in every part of the globe, just check the DUC.
I guess lots of people held their breaths concerning HD upgrades due toplug-ins Lots of cracks have been around for Mix systems and PT HD plugs have not been cracked.
I do not think stealing someone else´s property is cool, but why not plugs around $150 without this mess of pace, challenge/response codes?
Remember, plugs are not for real, imagine if Waves or BF go bankrupt...
I have (junior) mastered some PT HD stuff and have realized that the high end is smoother. I did not see any difference concerning the lows or mids. Maybe stereo image is a little better also.
I use a digital board (02R) with 2 adat bridges and some outboard hardware from Lexicon, Yamaha, etc. So, being short on dsp is not a big problem.
Also, one can print efx returns when using heavy sessions with dsp hungry plugs like Altiverb, MAster X, C4, Lexiverb, etc.
I myself decided to wait for PT 7 until an HD core accel PCI-X compatible system hits the market.
The new plug-in packs for the smaller/now also obsoleted PT HD1 systems are just a joke.
I get worried when too many NEW REVOLITIONARY stuff is released like a vomit in one pass. Impact, Neve/API simulation plugs, new BF, Crane,UA, etc etc. Although probably half is pretty nice, bugs are something to be aware of. We do not get paid to debug their expensive stuff.
:p:
I find that even mixes done in mix + sound better played back on
I find that even mixes done in mix + sound better played back on the HD converters. Having said that I imagine that the same would be true of recording. Bumping up to 96k is helping the sonics as well. The HD has twice the processing in it's cards and who is going to support and develope plugins for the old mix+ at this point. With OSX and a dual processing G4 processing is much better as well not to mention that it is much more stable a system.
