i have a software question. i do all of my recording on a Tascam 2488, and just got a laptop that i want to use for mixing those tracks. I don't use any MIDI or samples or anything, and want to mix just recorded audio (acoustic guitar, bass, drums, piano...). i've got decent powered monitors, and have a $200 budget for software. i was thinking about the academic version of Cubase sl since i'm a student -- any other ideas? my main priority with software is volume automation. thanks

traktion

check out the mackie site for more info. i believe it only costs $80usd. i've used it b4 and was extremely impressed. i never really adapted to it cuz i was playing with v1 and it didn't have aux sends (wtf!). but their out with v2 and i hear that it now has aux sends.

so far traktion v2 is available only as a demo, with the official release slated for may 2005.

check it out:
