we are planning to open a new studio (with $15,000 worth of equipment and furnishing). The Tascam DM 4800 looks like the best bet. We want to use it as a front end that we will digital out into a M-Audio 2626 into Pro Tools. We also want to use it as a mixing control surface for Pro Tools. Anybody use this before and have any experiences on its usability, quality, and A/D converters?

The studio I'm an independent at just installed one. So far it's pretty nice. Sounds good and the built in fx are useable. Not fantastic but worth the few $k. A utility piece of gear more than a money piece of gear.

The biggest downsides is that it has somewhat of a learning curve with the digital routing, and the way it is packaged by Tascam almost guarantees a damaged unit. We had two show up at the studio with the same damage caused by insufficient packaging. Make sure you inspect it thoroughly....especially the rear panel.
