Hi all
I use Nuendo and have been using it for the last 1 month. I have been facing a problem where the use of VST drains out my CPU. I know this must be a normal but I am sure there must be some other alternative of applying effects in such a way where one could save the CPU power. I generally like to add effects as insert for all every channel and few in the master track. If I have about 12 tracks and I add 2 effects each track and 3 on the master by this time my CPU usage meter touches the top and I start getting a lot of crack and pops. I generally record all clean tracks with low buffer setting and then increase the buffer when I mix them.
Am I doing the right way? Is there any other way to add effects without draining the cpu usage. How many effects could my system take as per my PC configuration. Do I need to upgrade my PC to increase the usage of adding effects. My PC's configuration is P4 3.0 GHz, 1GB RAM, 200 GB Hard disk, Delta 1010lt.
Looking for some advice from All.
Thanks and regds

If you need a delay/reverb/chorus/whatever effect that you want to run through more than one channel, it's a cpu saver to load it up as a send effect. :D
You can also use the FREEZE function in nuendo for channels that dont require any more processing at that moment. Vst instruments( + their fx) are the ones that take up most of the cpu.

More Ram wont help you. Your processor will still be processing the same thing.
You could try to find less CPU intensive VST's that do the same thing as your current ones OR you could get a faster more powerful processor. There is also the VST system link which you could look into. I've heard horror stories about it, but if you're desparate, it might be worth a shot.

Hi Kunal,
The problem is, your are using Effects on inserts. For channels use common Effects (Like Reverbs & Delays) on AUX sends, by this way you can use one reverb or Delay on as many tracks as you want.
I am using two Nuendo systems (including Delta1010LT) in my studio without any problems. I keep the buffer at 512 samples on both systems for Recording & Mixing.
If you want minimum stress on your CPU, You need Powered Plugins.
Universal audio UAD-1, TC electronic POWERCORE & WAVES APA32 and APA44-M are available at a cost. These are little bit expensive but have good results. Curretly I am using UAD-1 & want to add one more UAD-1 & TC Powercore. If you want to talk to me you can contact me at dineshgautam.com@gmail.com
